HIRAM, Ohio - September 5, 2021 – Hiram women's soccer won their second-straight, defeating the Franciscan University Barons, 1-0, on Sunday in extra time at Charles A. Henry Field.
Though the two sides combined for 13 shots, seven of which were on goal, neither was able to find the back of the net.
Hiram then outshot Franciscan, 12-2, in the second half, but was still not able to find paydirt, and the two sides headed to extra time.
And after an early opportunity was saved by
Skyler Huda and the Terriers' defense, Hiram pressed their advantage, with
Emily Kazimore netting the first shot for Hiram in extra time.
Mercedes Murray made the save, but less than a minute later
Ashley Dekam found
Amanda Pittman over the middle, and Pittman buried her shot in the back of the net to give Hiram a 1-0 victory.
With the win, the Terriers move to 2-1 on the season, while Franciscan drops to 1-1.
For the game, Hiram outshot Franciscan, 23-7, and 11-5 on shots on goal.
Pittman and
Kaitlyn Harris each led the Terriers with four shots, while
Samantha Carrico, Dekam and Kazimore each tallied three.
In goal for Hiram, Huda earned the win with five saves to her tally.
The Terriers next travel to University Heights, Ohio for a matchup against the John Carroll Blue Streaks on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
