HIRAM, Ohio - September 29, 2021 – Hiram Terriers women's soccer scored two goals on just three shots but fell to the Otterbein University Cardinals, 6-2, on Wednesday evening at Charles A. Henry Field.
After a back-and-forth start, the Cardinals got on the scoreboard first on Delaney Earl's unassisted goal in the ninth minute of the first half, taking a 1-0 lead.
Just over six minutes later, Anjuli Anderson made it 2-0, beating the keeper to double the Cardinals' lead.
Otterbein then looked to take a two-lead goal into the half, but the Terriers answered in the 44th minute.
Emily Kazimore found
Ashley Sandru on a cross, and Sandru buried the ball in the back of the net to cut the Cardinals' lead in half, 2-1, heading into the locker room.
And though the Terriers came out strong to start the second half, Otterbein added to their lead midway through the second half. Both Anderson and Earl found the back of the net for the second time, Anderson off an assist from Bailey Zanella in the 62nd minute, and Early on an unassisted goal in the 72nd minute to extend Otterbein's lead to 4-1.
Amanda Pittman gave Hiram its second goal of the match when she rocketed a shot off her foot to pull Hiram back within two, 4-2, in the 83rd minute, but Zanella and the Cardinals would add two more late goals to their tally to finish off the 6-2 victory.
With the loss, the Terriers fall to 2-8, while Otterbein moves to 6-1 win the win.
Pittman and Sandru each tallied a goal for the Terriers, while Kazimore added an assist to her tally.
Regina Dubeansky notched Hiram's other shot, while
Anika Zepeda made seven saves in goal.
The Terriers will next host the 11th-ranked Case Western Reserve Spartans on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Charles A. Henry Field in their final non-conference matchup of the season.
