Hiram Women’s Soccer Drops Final Non-Conference Matchup of the Year

HIRAM, Ohio - October 5, 2021 Hiram College women's soccer fell to the 10th-ranked Case Western Reserve University Spartans, 4-0, on Tuesday at Charles A. Henry Field in their final non-conference matchup of the 2021 campaign.

After nine minutes of scoreless play, Case Western took an early lead on Anika Washburn's unassisted goal in the 10th minute, giving the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

And although the Spartans would tally 13 more first-half shots, Skyler Huda and the Terriers' defense kept Case off the scoreboard the rest of the half to head do the locker room down just 1-0.

However, Washburn again found the back of the net just under two minutes into the second half off an assist from Sydney Schenk to extend Case's lead to 2-0.

Washburn and the Spartans looked to add to their lead in the 67th minute, but a trio of back-to-back-to-back saves by Huda kept the score at 2-0.

Case Western though, would again find paydirt in the 68th minute on Brianna Van Zanten's unassisted goal, adding another in the 82nd minute on Van Zanten's second goal of the day, this one assisted by Ella Copich, to solidify a 4-0 victory.

With the loss, the Terriers drop to 2-9, while No. 10 Case Western remains undefeated at 10-0 on the year.

Ashley Dekam and Kylie Hudson each recorded a shot for the Terriers, while Huda recorded a career-high 12 saves.

The Terriers will next host DePauw University on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. at Charles A. Henry Field.
