SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - September 25, 2021 – Hiram Terriers women's soccer fell to the Wittenberg University Tigers, 5-1, in their North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opener on Saturday at Edwards-Maurer Field.
After three early saves by
Skyler Huda, the Tigers got on the scoreboard first on Hannah Heald's goal in the 21st minute, assisted by Brooke Peters, to take a 1-0 lead.
Huda would add one more save to her first-half tally, as the Terriers headed into the locker room down 1-0.
Wittenberg though, quickly added to their lead in the second half in the 49th minute, taking a 2-0 lead on Amy Bidwill's goal, assisted by Heald.
Two more goals in the 76th and 78th minute extended Wittenberg's lead to 4-0, before Hiram got on the scoreboard on
Emily Turk's first-career goal in the 88th minute, cutting the Tigers' lead to 4-1.
However, the Tigers quickly re-extended their lead to four just 42 seconds later on Lindsey Magoteaux's 88th-minute strike, before finishing off the 5-1 victory.
With the loss, Hiram falls to 2-7 (0-1 NCAC), while the Tigers move to 4-4-1 (1-0 NCAC).
Emily Kazimore led the Terriers with two shots, while Turk and
Abby Bernhardt added one shot apiece. In goal for Hiram, Huda recorded six saves.
The Terriers are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 29 when they host Otterbein at 7:30 p.m. in non-conference action at Charles A. Henry Field.
