Hiram Women’s Soccer Falls to Heidelberg in Rain-Soaked Affair

HIRAM, Ohio - September 22, 2021On a wet and dreary Wednesday night, Hiram women's soccer fell to the Heidelberg University Student Princes, 2-0, in a non-conference matchup at Charles A. Henry Field.

Skyler Huda and the Terrier defense kept the Student Princes off the scoreboard for much of the first half, with six first-half saves. But with six minutes remaining in the half, Heidelberg broke through on Makenzie Damsa's goal, coming off Audrey Kaufman's cross to take a 1-0 lead.

And while the Terriers got a couple of shots off as they headed into the halftime break, they couldn't find the back of the net and trailed, 2-0, heading into the locker room.

Both sides got things going, offensively, in the second half, with a combined four shots over the first 10 minutes of play. Neither side was able to add to their tally, however, until Madi Lause smoked a shot out of Huda's reach to extend Heidelberg's lead to 2-0.

From there, the Student Princes' defense held the Terriers at bay, and Heidelberg finished off the 2-0 non-conference victory.

With the loss, Hiram falls to 2-6 on the season, while Heidelberg moves to 5-1.

Ashley Sandru and Kaitlyn Harris each led the Terriers with two shots apiece, while Huda made a career-high ten saves.

Hiram will next open North Coast Athletic Conference play when they visit Springfield, Ohio on Saturday, Sept. 25 for a 1 p.m. matchup against the Wittenberg Tigers.
