GAMBIER, Ohio – Sunday, May 2 – Hiram Terriers softball split a doubleheader at Kenyon dropping game 2-1 and taking game two 11-1 in five innings.
GAME 1: In the top of the first inning
Mariah Sheffield hit an RBI sacrifice fly allowing
Giselle Bahena to score the first run of the ballgame.
After a scoreless second inning Kenyon would take the lead in the third inning. Emily Pater hit a two run double scoring Bella Albrecht and Paige Milhon.
Starting pitcher Emily Pater was able to keep the Hiram bats silent in the back half of the contest. Pater allowed just one hit between the fourth and fifth innings. Hiram reached on two errors in the sixth inning, but not further damage was done. In the seventh inning the Terriers were able to put two runners on, but Pater was able to get out of it.
Pater (1-8) picked up the complete game win while striking out three.
Freshman
Meaghan Stafford was in the circle for Hiram. Stafford (0-1) made just her second appearance of the season going six innings and getting three strikeouts while taking the loss.
Kaitlyn Hager had three hits for Hiram with Bahena adding two hits and a run scored.
Viviana Macias had a two hit day as well after picking that same number one day ago.
GAME 2: Bahena connected on her first career home run in the first inning to put Hiram up 1-0.
In the third inning
Angel Santellan hit a two run double scoring
Mariah Sheffield and
Leah Valdez. Stafford followed that up with an RBI sacrifice fly with
Rebekah Lewan hitting an RBI single.
Bahena's RBI sacrifice fly was the lone run in the fourth inning before a big inning at the plate in the fifth. Lewan hit a two run double followed by Bahena drilling a two run single making it 9-0.
Pinch hitter
Maricruz Gonzalez had an RBI groundout.
Ryleigh Webb finished off the scoring with an RBI single.
Bahena continued her success at the plate from game one with two hits, two runs and four RBI. Lewan went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. Santellan and Stafford also collected two hits apiece for the road side.
Starting pitcher
Jeskari Rodriguez faced the minimum in the first three innings. The left hander would allow just one hit over four innings and struck out five. Rodriguez picked up her team leading tenth win of the season. Santellan would pitch the final inning of game two.
Tori Rogers (0-6) took the loss for Kenyon.
The Terriers finish the weekend going 3-1 vs. Kenyon while allowing just three runs in the four games.
With the win Hiram improves to 23-14 as they enter the final week of the regular season. The team will next suit up and play Oberlin on Tuesday, May 4 with a doubleheader beginning at 3:30.
