HIRAM, Ohio – April 3, 2021 – Hiram softball split a doubleheader playing Wooster winning game one 5-4 in nine innings and losing game two 9-8 at Herndon Field.
GAME 1: Wooster started the scoring in game number one scoring two runs in the first inning. Molly and Heidi Linkis each had RBI hits giving the road team an early 2-0 lead.
The Fighting Scots again added onto their lead in the third and sixth innings when Heidi Linkis again hit an RBI single. Stephanie Griffin added hit an RBI triple making the Wooster lead 4-0.
Hiram came roaring back in the sixth inning with four runs.
Abriana Schwartz hit a bases clearing triple cutting the Wooster lead to 4-3.
Kaitlyn Hager then tied the ball game at four with an RBI single bringing in Schwartz.
Mariah Sheffield played hero for the home team hitting a game winning RBI double in the ninth inning scoring
Giselle Bahena. The Terriers would win 5-4 in nine innings for their first extra-inning and walk off win of the year.
Jeskari Rodriguez was the lone pitcher for Hiram throwing nine innings giving up three earned runs and striking out five. Rodriguez earned her fourth win of the season and improves to 4-1.
Olivia Johnson (3-2) took the loss for the Fighting Scots pitching seven innings while striking out seven.
Schwartz had two hits for the Terriers including three RBIs and a walk. Hager, Sheffield and
Rebekah Lewan each added two hits as well.
GAME 2: In the second game both teams traded runs early. Hiram tacked on a run in the second inning followed by a Wooster three run third inning. Gabby Lakes, Heidi Linkins and Anna Norby had RBI singles for the Fighting Scots.
Wooster went on to score three more runs in the fourth inning extending their lead to 6-1.
Hiram would begin chipping back into the game in the fourth inning.
Melissa Galindo had a sacrifice bunt scoring
Rebekah Lewan and
Abriana Schwartz hit an RBI single making the Wooster lead 6-3.
Wooster answered with a two run fifth inning making it 8-3 Fighting Scots.
The Terriers fought back three run fifth inning.
Giselle Bahena hit an RBI single followed by
Mariah Sheffield hitting an RBI double scoring Bahena. Sheffield hit a two run double in the sixth inning, but the Hiram comeback would fall short dropping game two 9-8.
Nine Terriers recorded a hit in game two. Hager and Bahena each had two hits and after hitting a walk off double in game one, Sheffield added two hits with three RBIs.
Bahena and
Lexa Avalos were the two Terriers to score two runs.
Bailey Scheck (2-6) took the loss for the Terriers pitching three and one third innings while striking out two.
Angel Santellan relieved her and pitched the final three and two thirds striking out one.
Marissa Norgrove took the win for the Fighting Scots improving to 4-1. She pitched four innings striking out three.
Hiram and Wooster will meet again tomorrow, Sunday April 4, with a doubleheader at Wooster starting at 1 p.m.
