Hiram Baseball Completes Comeback In Game One At Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio – April 10, 2021 – Hiram baseball split a doubleheader at Kenyon winning game one 7-4 and dropping game two 2-1.

GAME 1: No runs were scored in the first two innings as starters Stephen Javorek and Patrick Craig kept the bats quiet. Kenyon would take the first four runs of the game on a pair of two-run home runs in the third and fourth innings by Andrew Rabinowitz and Will Sturgeon.

In the sixth inning Hiram would score six runs to complete the comeback. Devin Houdeshell started the comeback with an RBI single scoring Curtis Caithaml. Chaisson Marrs added his own RBI single, followed by Kyle Adams getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded making it 4-3.

Michael Corsillo reached first on an error causing Cole Bates to score and tie the game.

Caithaml hit a two-run single breaking the tie scoring Adams and Marrs. David Paus finished the Terriers scoring with an RBI single scoring Corsillo pushing the lead to 7-4.

Jacob Kocuba would come in and close out the game pitching a scoreless seventh inning.

Javorek (2-1) took the win for Hiram going six innings and striking out three. The Chesterland, Ohio native earned his second straight victory. Kocuba picked up his first career save for the Terriers.
It was a well balanced attack at the plate in game one as eight different Terriers recorded a hit. Caithaml and Marrs each had two hits. On the bases Hiram had four different players record a stolen base in Caithaml, Paus, Evan Fairbanks and Marrs who had two. 

GAME 2: Daniel Quintero Jr. and Zach Elsawy both took the mound in game two and each pitched deep into the contest.

Rabinowitz hit an RBI single in the first inning, but Quintero Jr. was able to shut down the Lords' offense for the next couple innings.

Evan Fairbanks was able to even the game at one on an RBI double scoring Paus in the sixth inning.

Ayden Head's RBI single in the sixth inning would be the difference maker for Kenyon as the home side would take a 2-1 lead.

Quintero Jr. (1-3) took the loss pitching the second most innings out of his five appearances this season. The sophomore pitched six innings allowing one earned run with four strikeouts. He faced the minimum amount of batters in the second and fifth innings.

Elsawy pitched five and two thirds innings allowing one earned run with two strikeouts. Sam Richards (1-0) picked up the win collecting the final four outs without allowing a baserunner.
Corsillo and Fairbanks each had two hits with Fairbanks collecting the lone Hiram RBI.

Hiram (7-15) will play Kenyon again tomorrow, Sunday April, 11, at Hiram with a doubleheader starting a 1 p.m.
