HIRAM, Ohio - March 21, 2021 – The Hiram College Cheer & STUNT team swept their two games against Tiffin University at The Gilmor Student Center on Sunday, topping the Dragons, 12-10 in game one, and 10-9 in game two.
Hiram took an early, 3-0, lead against the Dragons, winning three out of the first four partner stunt rounds in the first quarter. The Terriers then extended their lead to 6-1 at the half, tying the Dragons in first round of the second quarter, pyramids and tosses, before picking up points in rounds two and three.
However, the Dragons stormed back, scoring all four points in the third quarter, jumps and tumbles, to cut Hiram's lead to 7-5. But the Terriers finished off the match with two points in each of the fourth-quarter rounds to pick up the 12-10 victory.
In the second match, Tiffin matched the Terriers with two points in the opening quarter, but Hiram picked up two more in the second compared to just one for the Dragons to take a 4-3 lead at the half.
The Dragons then came out strong in the third, and tied the Terriers heading to the fourth, notching three points in rounds one, three and four, whereas Hiram only tallied points in rounds two and four.
Tied at 6-6, both Hiram and Tiffin scored two points in the opening round of the fourth, but Hiram scored the go-ahead point a round later, beating Tiffin, 2-1 in the second round to take home a 10-9 victory and two-match sweep.
With the two wins, the Terriers start their season 2-0, while Tiffin falls to 1-3.
The Terriers will next travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. for a pair of games against Concordia (Mich.) and Tiffin on Saturday, March 27 at 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., respectively.
