HIRAM, Ohio - March 13, 2021 Hiram Terriers women's basketball swept its home-and-home against The College of Wooster on Saturday, defeating the Fighting Scots, 68-58 in Price Gymnasium.

The Fighting Scots got on the scoreboard first on a jumper by Masani Francis, but the Terriers quickly tied things up at six-all on a pair of three-pointers from Taylor Valaitis and Haley Thompson, took the lead on another Thompson jumper, and would never trail again.

A 13-1 run to close out the first quarter put the Terriers up by nine, as Wright and Thompson combined for 11 of the Terriers' 16 first-quarter points.

The Terriers quickly brought the lead out to double-digits on Selena Vargas' layup with 8:47 left in the first half, before Wooster clawed their way gap, cutting Hiram's lead to four with just under three minutes to play.

Hiram though, went on another run, this time keyed by four points from Wright, a three by Alex Lichner and Sam Cain's steal and score just before the end of the first half, to take their largest lead of the game, 32-21, into the halftime break.

A cold start to the second half allowed the Fighting Scots to close the gap to five on Harley Holloway's triple with 6:36 left in the third, but Hiram went on another run, scoring seven-straight points over the course of a minute stretch to extend their lead back out to 12.

The Terriers extended their lead to as many as 17 down the stretch of the third, take a 17-poiint, 49-32 lead on Wright's jumper with 37 seconds left in the quarter, before Wooster cut the lead to 14 heading to the fourth.

Hiram, though, kept their foot on the gas, and never led by less than 10 through the fourth quarter. Wooster twice cut the lead to 10 in the final five minutes, but clutch jumpers by two of the Terriers' seniors in Madison Branch and Wright, kept Hiram's lead at double-digits, before three-pointer from Anastasia Lawler and Lichner sealed the 68-58 victory for the Terriers.

Wright again led the Terriers with 17 points, while Lichner again finished in double-figures with 11 points and four boards. Vargas recorded her first-career double-double, tallying 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Thompson fell a few points shy of her second-straight double-double, with seven points and 11 boards.

Defensively, four Terriers recorded blocks, led by Branch's team-high two, while Thompson, Vargas and Wright each tallied three steals.
As a team, Hiram scored 17 points off Wooster turnovers, and 24 points off the bench, led by Vargas' 10.

With the win, Hiram moves to 2-0 on the year, while the Fighting Scots wrap up their season at 0-8.

The Terriers next travel to Delaware, Ohio on Thursday, March 18 to tip-off a home-and-home against Ohio Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m.
