DELAWARE, Ohio - March 18, 2021 – Hiram College women's basketball fell to Ohio Wesleyan, 78-39 on Thursday at Branch Rickey Arena to open their home-and-home against the Battling Bishops.
After a low-scoring first quarter, Hiram trailed just 16-9. But the Battling Bishops opened the second quarter on a 10-0 run to extend their lead to 26-9 with 6:26 remaining in the half.
Selena Vargas' layup slowed OWU's run, but the Battling Bishops answered with another extended run and took a 37-17 lead into the halftime break.
Ohio Wesleyan then pulled away in the second half, leading 59-29 at the end of the third, before finishing off the 78-39 victory in the fourth.
TT Wright led the Terriers with 10 points, while
Madison Branch added seven points, shooting 3-for-6 from the field. Defensively,
Alex Lichner led Hiram with five rebounds, while
Haley Thompson and Vargas added four boards apiece.
With the loss, Hiram drops to 2-1 on the year, while the Battling Bishops move to 7-2.
The Terriers will look to bounce back and wrap up their abbreviated 2020-21 Spring season on Sunday, March 21 when they host the Battling Bishops for the return trip at 2:00 p.m. in Price Gymnasium.
