MEADVILLE, Pa. – December 1, 2021 – Hiram men's basketball fell to Allegheny, 103-68, in their North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opener Wednesday night.
Hiram started off the contest with an 8-2 lead with
Ishmaaeel Hayes-Muhammad scoring on a layup as the Terriers got off ahead less than two minutes in.
The Gators went off on an 11-1 run following the Terrier lead with Brian Roberts capping the scoring for the home side as Allegheny took a 19-8 lead with 13:22 left.
A three-point shot from
Chance Wells got Hiram back in striking distance as the Terriers trailed 26-21 with just over eight minutes left. Looking to take back the lead,
Joe Ayo drilled a jumper as Hiram stayed within two shots now down 29-25 down the final stretch of the first half.
After Ayo's shot, Allegheny closed out the first half on a 12-6 run as they took the advantage heading into the locker room leading 44-31.
Heading into the second half, the Gators struck first early. Brian Roberts made a three-point shot as Hiram called a timeout now down 56-33.
Allegheny's lead ensued deeper into the second half now up 69-38 with just over 13 minutes left.
Hayes-Muhammad made three straight points for Hiram after a layup and made free throw with under ten minutes left.
Allegheny finished off the contest winning, 103-68.
Kevin Beans Jr. led the Terriers with 16 points along with four rebounds. Ayo was the other Terrier to reach double figures with ten points along with four boards as well.
Oliver Clingain led with seven rebounds.
With the defeat, Hiram falls to 2-4 on the season and 0-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play. The Terriers are back at Price Gymnasium for their next game hosting Wittenberg on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m.
