GRANVILLE, Ohio – November 5, 2021 – Hiram women's volleyball dropped a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament match falling 3-0 vs. Wooster in the quarterfinals.
Set one started with the Terriers out in front 8-4 after back to back kills from
Kayla Cole and
Kiara Franks. Wooster fought back however, making the middle portions of the first set close. After an attack error from Hiram, the Fighting Scots tied the first set at 13. A four point run from Hiram saw the Terriers break away slightly going up 17-13 after a Cole ace.
Emily Chrustic picked up a service ace for Hiram putting the score at 21-17 Terriers, but Wooster stormed back. The Fighting Scots claimed eight of the final ten points of the first set to win 25-23.
Wooster broke out early in set two, going up 7-3 after
Andrya Hanmore and
Mary Landis checked into the contest. The Fighting Scots scored four of the next five points pushing the lead to 11-3. Furthermore, the no. 5 seed Fighting Scots went up 19-9, before winning the final five points of the second set winning 25-12.
After an attack error from Wooster, Hiram saw a 4-1 lead shortly into the third set. Seven straight points ensued from the Fighting Scots going up 8-4. Another seven point run shortly after put Wooster ahead 16-6 as the no. 5 seed looked to put the match away. Wooster won six of the final seven points going on to win the third set 25-12.
Franks and Cole led the way for Hiram offensively as the seniors picked up seven and six kills. Chrustic was the lone Terriers to reach the double digit mark with ten.
Mackenzie Brannon claimed 15 digs in the three-set match.
In the match, Brannon picked up her 1000
th career dig.
Hiram finishes the 2021 season with a 14-15 record and 5-3 in NCAC play. Franks and Cole each crossed the 1000 kill mark for their careers of the course of the season. Additionally, Franks was named First Team All-NCAC and Cole was named to the Second Team.
