Hiram Women's Volleyball Sweeps Thiel in Home Victory

HIRAM, Ohio – October 5, 2021 – Hiram women's volleyball picked up their ninth straight set victory of the season defeating Thiel, 3-0, Tuesday night.

Hiram began to pull away with the score tied at seven. The Terriers ripped off six of the next seven points after a Kiara Franks kill. Another big stretch of points saw Hiram increase their lead even more near the end of the first set. After a Thiel point cutting the lead to 16-11, the home side scored seven of the next eight points in a stretch that included two Madison Burns kills. Capping off the first set was Lyndsey Johns earning a kill.

In set two a five-point run put Hiram up 7-1 in a run that included two Mackenzie Brannon. The Terriers extended their lead further going up 13-6 after a Thiel attack error. Two Emily Richardson kills bolstered the lead to 18-9. Andrya Hanmore had a kill and Sydney Jacquin earned the 25th point on a service ace.

Seven-straight points, including two Johns kills, early in set three put Hiram in the driver's seat at 11-7. Back-to-back points saw Thiel shrink their lead to 14-13 as the Terriers looked to put the match away. Four of the next five points went Hiram's way as Hiram looked to pull away at 19-14. The remainder of the match went the Terriers way as a service error secured the match at 25-17.

17 different Terriers appeared in the win. Kayla Cole led the team with eight kills as Johns and Richardson each had seven. Emily Chrustic led the team with 17 assists as Mary Landis also reached double digits at 14. Defensively, Brannon led the way with 17 digs and Cole had 11.

Win the win Hiram improves to 10-9 on the season. The Terriers continue North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. inside Price Gymnasium.
