HIRAM, Ohio - October 28, 2021 – Though they held a 1-0 lead at the half, Hiram women's soccer fell to the Allegheny College Gators, 3-2, on Thursday at Charles A. Henry Field at Malmisur Stadium.
After a number of early corner kicks for the Gators,
Emily Kazimore and
Jaycee Ward got Hiram's offense going with a pair of shots in the 25th and 29th minutes.
Neither team was able to get much going till late in the first half, when
Kaitlyn Harris scored on the rebound, giving the Terriers a 1-0 lead with just 46 seconds to play in the first half.
Hiram headed into the locker room up 1-0, but Allegheny quickly answered with three goals in the first six minutes of the second half, two by Taylor McKindley and one by Emily Orr, to take a 3-1 lead.
Skyler Huda and the Terrier defense prevented the Gators from extending their lead any further, before Hiram's offense got into a groove late in the second half.
After a pair of Hiram corners, Ward found the back of the net on a beautiful shot, assisted by
Briana Troyan, to cut Allegheny's lead to 3-2.
And while Ward picked up three more shots the rest of the second half, Kaitlyn Rees kept Hiram from finding the equalizier, as the Gators eked out a 3-2 victory.
