HIRAM, Ohio - October 30, 2021 – Hiram women's soccer fell to the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops, 3-0, in their season finale on Saturday at Charles A. Henry Field at Malmisur Stadium.
Both sides looked to get going early, with five shots in the first 15 minutes. However, neither side was able to put any of the five on goal, and the Terriers and Battling Bishops remained scoreless for much of the first half.
But in the 36th minute, OWU earned a corner kick, and Madison Cofer headed Brooklynn Buck's corner into the back of the net to give Ohio Wesleyan a 1-0 lead heading into the locker room.
Ohio Wesleyan quickly came out on the attack in the second half, earning a penalty kick on a foul by
Kate Long, and Hannah Baughman buried the penalty kick in the back of the net, past the reach of
Skyler Huda to extend the Battling Bishops lead to 2-0.
And after a number of close calls, Ohio Wesleyan extended their lead in the 71st minute with another header from Cofer, off a corner-kick assist by Buck, to take a 3-0 lead.
Down 3-0, Hiram's offense pushed forward, looking for a goal, and
Ashley Dekam picked up a pair of shots on goal, but Taylor Floyd and OWU's defense kept Hiram off the scoreboard the rest of the way to finish off the 3-0 victory.
Dekam led Hiram with three shots, two of which were on goal, while
Kylie Hudson,
Emily Kazimore,
Amanda Pittman and
Emily Turk each added one.
Both Huda and
Anika Zepeda saw action in goal, with Zepeda getting the start and recording a save, while Huda notched two.
With the loss, Hiram finishes the year 2-16 (0-8 NCAC), while the Battling Bishops wrap up the year 9-5-4 (4-3-1) with the win.
