HIRAM, Ohio – October 27, 2021 – Hiram women's volleyball defeated Oberlin, 3-0, on Wednesday night inside Price Gymnasium in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) match.
Set one started in a steady fashion with neither team breaking ahead too early. With the score tied at ten, Hiram went on a mini three-point run with two kills from
Andrya Hanmore. As the set inched closer towards the conclusion, the score remained tight. The Terriers racked up five of the final six points in a stretch that included three
Kayla Cole kills to win the set 25-20.
A breakaway for the home team occurred at the start of set two that saw Hiram go up 12-6 after six straight points. Looking to tie the match up, Oberlin took a 17-16 lead with the set getting closer to the finish line. The Terriers took the 19-18 lead after a
Kiara Franks kill and didn't look back closing out set two. A massive six-point close to set two saw Hiram win 25-19 in a similar fashion to set one. Both Hanmore and Cole had kills in the final portion of the set.
Things looked similar in set three as the previous two sets with the score remaining fairly even early. Oberlin broke out and went on a seven-point streak having their largest lead of any set at 16-9. Hiram began clawing their way back into the set trailing 201-6 after a Franks kill. Seven straight points ensued for the Terriers with Franks again contributing with two kills in that run. With the score notched up at 24, Cole tallied a kill and
Madison Russell ended the match with a service ace closing out a 26-24 win.
On senior night both seniors led the team in kills with Cole and Franks each getting 12.
Emily Chrustic and
Mary Landis each registered 18 assists. Defensively
Mackenzie Brannon led the way with 16 digs as Cole recorded 13 and Franks ten.
With the win, the team improves to 14-12 on the year and 5-3 in NCAC play as conference play wraps up. Hiram has now won four of their last five games and four straight conference matches.
The Terriers conclude their regular season traveling to Westerville, Ohio to play both Capital and Otterbein on Saturday, Oct. 30 with matches at 1 and 3 p.m.
