HIRAM, Ohio – October 19, 2021 – Hiram women's volleyball defeated Allegheny, 3-1, inside Price Gymnasium claiming their third conference victory of the season.
In set one Hiram soared out to an 11-4 start in a run that included two
Kayla Cole kills. The Terriers kicked it into high gear in the latter portion of the set controlling their lead. As the team scored eight of nine points, Hiram commanded a 22-9 lead after an attack error from Allegheny. Back-to-back points from the Terriers ended set one with a decisive 25-11 lead.
Set two started as a much closer battle than set one with the score being tied at nine early. Hiram had a quick four-point run after an
Emily Chrustic service ace. A huge rally from Hiram saw the team go up 21-12 in a run that included three
Kiara Franks kills. A late rally from Allegheny kept the game in distance at 22-18, but the Terriers pulled away. Hiram scored the final three points of the set winning 25-18.
In the early portion of the first set, the Terriers went up 13-6. The Gators kept it within reach with the game at 17-14. After a kill from Chrustic, Hiram was up 21-16. A late rally from Allegheny included five straight points as the set was all squared up at 21. The road side claimed set three by a score of 25-23 forcing a fourth set.
Hiram took control of the fourth set early thanks to a six-point run from the Terriers with three
Miya Gotto service aces. The home team was in cruise control to close out the set winning the fourth set 25-15 on a bad set from Allegheny.
With the win, Hiram moves to 12-11 on the year and 3-3 in conference play.
Three different Terriers reached the double-digit mark in kills. Franks and Cole led the way with 15 and 14, with
Madison Burns having 11.
Chrustic claimed 29 assists and
Mary Landis had 11.
Mackenzie Brannon led the way defensively with 17 digs. Cole was right behind her with 15 and Gotto had ten.
The Terriers now hit the home stretch of their NCAC campaign with two conference matches remaining. Hiram next plays at Wooster on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. On the same day, the team also plays Penn State Behrend at 1 p.m.
