PITTSBURGH, Pa. - October 16, 2021 – Hiram Terriers swimming and diving split their season opener at Chatham, with the men's team picking up a 140-73 victory, while the women's squad fell to the Cougars, 149-81.
The Terrier men got off to a hot start, picking up 11 early points with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, before adding seven points with a second and third-place finish by
Landon Hughes and
Devin Gear in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
A few events later in the 50-yard breaststroke, four Terriers picked up points, with
Natalie Brown placing eighth on Hiram's Top 15 times with her 39.26 time, and Gear earning a team-high nine points in the event.
Three first-year freshman on the men's side along placed times on Hiram's Top 15 times list, with
Dayne Sauter and
Adam Ellis' 26.70 and 29.31 heats in the 50-yard butterfly placing sixth and 12th on Hiram's Top 15 times list, and Vincent Ahsam-Kreiter's 30.42 time in the 50-yard backstroke ranking 15th.
In the 100-yard freestyle, four Terriers placed, with
Moraine Jackson and Brown finishing second and third on the women's side, and Sauter and
Xavier Jones placing first and third on the men's side.
Ahsam-Kreiter and Ellis then took home first and second-place in the 100-yard backstroke, and Hughes and
Jacob Carleton earned second and third in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Carlee Lisser took home first-place in the 500-yard freestyle, while
Adrianna Klepper and
Madelyn Sagle finished No. 1 and 2 in the 50-yard butterfly, with Sauter and Ellis finished one and two on the men's side.
Elena Rinaldi and Hughes then took home first in the 200-yard individual medley, before the Terriers wrapped up the meet with wins on both the men's and women's side in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Hiram will next travel to Berea, Ohio for the Baldwin Wallace Fall Duals on Friday, Oct. 22 beginning at 6 p.m.
