CLEVELAND, Ohio – October 13, 2021 – Hiram women's volleyball fell in a non-conference match at Case Western Reserve, 3-0, Wednesday night.
In the early portions of set one, both teams remained tight as Hiram took the slight 9-6 lead after an
Alex Fisher kill. Case Western began their comeback going on an eight-point run taking a 14-9 lead. Both teams traded points late as CWRU saw their lead extend to 20-16. The Spartans collected five of the final seven points of the set winning 25-20.
Case Western got off to a strong start in set two and didn't look back in set two. The home team started the second frame with a 9-3 start. Hiram went off on a small run cutting the lead to 10-7 after an
Emily Richardson kill. A nine-point run for CWRU would prove to be the difference as the Spartans won set two, 25-11.
Set three was a back-and-forth affair for both teams. Hiram was able to take a small 12-10 lead that included a three-point run with kills from Richardson and
Kiara Franks. After a
Lyndsey Johns kill, the Terriers held a 17-14 lead over CWRU. The Spartans however ended the third set scoring seven of the final eight points winning 25-22.
Kiara Franks reached the double-digit mark in kills recording 11. Both
Emily Chrustic led the assists category with 15 while
Mary Landis had 11.
Defensively,
Mackenzie Brannon had 26 digs. Chrustic and
Miya Gotto were behind her with 13 and 12.
With the defeat, the Terriers fall to 10-11 on the year. The team picks back up with North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play on Saturday, Oct. 16 playing at Kenyon with a 1 p.m. start time.
