WOOSTER, Ohio - October 12, 2021 – Though they cut The College of Wooster's lead in half late, Hiram women's soccer's late rally wasn't enough as the Terriers fell to the Fighting Scots, 5-2, on Tuesday in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play.
Wooster's Miura Wiley gave the Fighting Scots an early lead in the 16th minute, but the Terrier defense held Wooster at bay the rest of the first half, and headed into the locker room down 1-0.
Wiley added another goal to her tally just under three minutes into the second half off an assist from Hallie Krzys, before Krzys added a pair of goals in the 55th and 63rd minute to extended Wooster's lead to 4-0.
Six minutes later though, Hiram answered with a goal, taking advantage of a Fighting Scots' foul in the box to score on
Ashley Dekam's penalty kick, cutting Wooster's lead to 4-1.
And after 16 minutes of scoreless play,
Kaitlyn Harris further cut into Wooster's lead, scoring off an assist from
Emily Turk to make a it a 4-2 game.
However, just two and a half minutes later, Teddi Farson extended the Fighting Scots' lead back to three in the 87th minute before Wooster finished off the 5-2 victory.
Hiram drops to 2-11 (0-3 NCAC) with the loss, while the Fighting Scots move to 6-6-1 (1-1-1 NCAC) with the win.
Offensively, Dekam led the Terriers with three shots and a goal, while
Emily Kazimore and
Ashley Sandru each added a pair of shots. Harris added a goal on just one shot, while
Shelby Jackson,
Mackenzie Morrison and
Amanda Pittman each tallied a shot as well.
In goal for the Terriers,
Skyler Huda added to her NCAC-leading tally with a career-high 13 saves.
It's a quick turn-around for the Terriers as Hiram visits Oberlin College on Friday, Oct. 15 for a matchup with the Yeowomen at 7:00 p.m.
