Women's Basketball Upended by DePauw in NCAC Quarterfinals

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – February 25, 2020– The Hiram College women's basketball team bowed out of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships on Tuesday night, falling to DePauw in the quarterfinals by a final score of 89-48.

DePauw entered tonight's competition seeded first in the conference (25-1 overall, 16-0 NCAC), and third in the nation according to D3hoops.com.

Junior Madison Branch led the Hiram offense, posting 16 points and two assists.

Junior Tashauna Wright finished the night with 15 points. Wright is now the program record-holder for points scored in a season (507 points), and sits tenth on Hiram's career leaders list with 1,073 points.

The Terriers led a majority of the opening quarter, claiming their largest lead of the game in the first four minutes.

Wright scored the first basket of the game from the charity stripe to pull Hiram ahead 1-0.

Hiram used a 7-2 swing to tally a five-point advantage. In the run, Branch posted a layup, while freshman Taylor Valaitis hit a three-pointer, and Wright scored a basket.

From there, sophomore Cici Bright and Wright would each hit a shot to maintain the Terriers lead (12-7).

In the remaining minutes, Hiram would watch as their advantage shrunk with the host closing out the frame with a 10-4 run (17-16).

The Terriers struggled through the remaining of the first half, scoring nine points in the second quarter (44-25).

The host momentum continued out of the halftime break, with Depauw outscoring Hiram 45-23 in the last half to secure their 89-48 victory.

The Terriers, who entered the game seeded eighth in the conference, finished their season with a record of 7-19 (4-12, NCAC).
