Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - February 22, 2020 – Hiram Terriers men's basketball dropped their regular-season finale to the 5th-ranked Wittenberg Tigers, 93-65, on Saturday at Pam Evans Smith Arena.
Sherman Dean III knocked down a three-point and Antonio McQueen made a pair of layup to give the Terriers an early, 7-1 lead against the Tigers. Wittenberg quickly answered though with a 16-4 run, taking a 17-11 lead on James Johnson's layup with 14:02 to play in the first half.
The Tigers led by as many as 12 before Hiram made a run of their own, cutting the deficit to four, 29-25, on Dean III's jumper with 6:49 left in the first half.
Hiram would then pull within one on Brodgie Gordon's jump shot with 2:30 remaining and take a 37-35 lead on Dean III's triple, but the Tigers finished the first half on a 9-2 run to take a 44-39 lead into the locker room.
McQueen led the Terriers at the break with 12 points and six rebounds.
Wittenberg would continue their run in the second half, stretching their lead out to 16, 57-41, with 14:29 remaining. The Tigers led by as many as 33 in the second half as Hiram went cold from the field, shooting just 28.6 percent and 22.2 percent from three.
The Terriers got Wittenberg's lead down to 11, 60-49, with 11:37 to play on Dean III's fast-break jumper to cap off a 5-0 run, but the Tigers pulled away with a huge run, eventually finishing off the 93-65 victory.
McQueen led the Terriers with his second double-double of the season, tallying a team-high 18 points and 13 rebounds. Dean III joined McQueen in double-figures with 14 points, while Gordon notched a team-high four assists.
Hiram shot 37.7 percent from the floor and 19.0 percent from three, while Wittenberg connected on 45.0 percent of their shots, and 34.6 percent from beyond the arc.
With the loss, the Terriers wrap up the 2019-20 campaign with a 7-18 (4-14 NCAC) record, while the Tigers move to 24-1 (17-1 NCAC) on the year.
