Box Score HIRAM, Ohio - February 15, 2020 – Hiram Terriers men's basketball fell to the Oberlin College Yeomen, 84-69, on Senior Day on Saturday at Price Gymnasium.
The first half featured 11 ties and nine lead changes as Hiram and Oberlin traded buckets throughout the first half, with neither team able to build much of a lead.
With the score knotted at 31 with under a minute to play in the first half, Joshua Friedkin sank two free throws and Charles Tiedemann knocked down a jumper to give Oberlin its largest lead of the first half, 35-31.
But Sherman Dean III hit a three at the buzzer, cutting the lead to just one, 35-34, heading into the locker room.
Dead III led the Terriers with 11 first-half points, while Antonio McQueen added nine points and five rebounds.
Hiram took their first lead of the second half, 38-37 on McQueen's layup with 17:56 to play, but Oberlin took it right back on Tiedemann's layup. Oberlin maintained a one-possession lead as the Terriers matched them shot for shot before the Yeomen used a 15-3 run to take their largest lead of the game.
With Oberlin leading 48-47, the Yeomen outscored the Terriers by 12 over the next four minutes, taking a 63-50 lead on Isaac Finestone's jump shot with 9:20 to play.
Hiram twice got the deficit down to single-digits down the stretch, but the Yeomen used a late, 7-0 run to pull away with the 84-69 victory.
With the loss, the Terriers drop to 7-16 (4-12 NCAC), while the Yeomen move to 14-9 (8-8 NCAC).
Dean III led the Terriers with 22 points, while McQueen added 16 points and seven rebounds.
Hiram shot 41.4 percent from the floor, and 30.4 percent from three, while the Yeomen shot 56.9 percent and 25.0 percent from beyond the arc.
The Terriers next travel to Meadville, Pa. for their penultimate game of the 2019-20 campaign where they'll face the Allegheny College Gators on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 8:00 p.m.
