Box Score GRANVILLE, Ohio – January 29, 2020 - The Hiram College women's basketball team fell 76-61 to the Big Red of Denison, Wednesday night.
The Big Red held the lead majority of the game thanks to guard duo Alison Schafer and Zyah Beal. Schafer tallied a team-high 19 points while Beal added 13.
Denison was the first to get on the board, stretching their lead to three points (9-6).
The opening quarter was played close with the Terriers knotting the score twice, the last tie was off a three-pointer (9-9) from junior Alainna Conroy.
In the quarter, the Big Red connected on three triples to start the game with a 23-15 advantage.
From there, Denison maintained the opening half momentum, going on to outscore Hiram by double digits in the second (40-23).
The second half mirrored the first with the Big Red holding a 21-12 advantage in the third (61-35).
The Terriers had their strongest quarter in the fourth outscoring Denison 26-15, shooting 8-of-12 from the floor and proving almost perfect from the free-throw line (9-10).
The host finished with a 15-point lead, securing their 76-61 win.
Junior Tashauna Wright tallied the team-high in scoring, notching 25 points and three rebounds.
Sophomore Cici Bright finished with 13 points and five boards.
Hiram will return home Saturday, Feb. 1 as they face conference foe Ohio Wesleyan. The matchup with the Battling Bishops is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
