Hiram Football Drops 2019 Road Finale at Wabash

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - November 9, 2019 – Hiram Terriers football fell to the Wabash College Little Giants, 24-0, in their final road game of the 2019 season on Saturday at Hollett Little Giant Stadium.

After a trio of three-and-outs, Wabash got on the scoreboard first. The Little Giants engineered a 11-play, 70-yard drive, starting at their own 30-yard line, to take a 7-0 lead on Isaac Avant's five-yard touchdown run.

Following another Terrier three-and-out, the Little Giants extended their lead. Wabash drove 65 yards over eight plays, taking a 14-0 lead on Liam Thompson's five-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Sullivan.

Hiram struggled to get much going, offensively, in the first quarter, and the Little Giants added another score to open the second quarter. Starting from the Hiram 42-yard line, Wabash put together a five-play, 42-yard drive to take a 21-0 lead on Sullivan's 14-yard rushing touchdown.

On the ensuing drive, the Terriers found their footing, offensively, driving down into the red zone. Xavier Reyero found Raequan Davis-Hereford for 24 yards on first-and-10 from the Hiram 25-yard-line, and two 10-plus yard rushes from Jacquarias Waller gave the Terriers first-and-goal from the Wabash nine.

However, the Terriers drive stalled and Reyero's pass intended for Tahj Lorthridge sailed incomplete on fourth-and-goal, keeping Wabash's lead at 21-0.

Neither side got much going on offense the rest of the first half, combined for three punts, and the Terriers headed into the locker room down 21-0.

And though the Terriers' defense held the Little Giants to just three points in the second half, forcing four punts and two turnovers, Hiram's offense wasn't able to take advantage.

Jordan Jones intercepted Thompson and the Little Giants in the end zone, keeping Wabash from extending their lead with just under two minutes to play in the third. The Terriers then proceeded to drive down to the Wabash 18-yard line, but stalled just outside the red zone after a pair of sacks and turned the ball over on downs.

Wabash made it 24-0 with a 27-yard field goal with 2:36 to play, and the Terriers' last drive stalled at the Little Giants' 30-yard line, finishing off the victory for Wabash.

Hiram falls to 0-9 (0-8 NCAC) with the loss, while Wabash moves to 7-2 (7-1 NCAC) with the win.

Reyero completed 13-of-29 passes for 91 yards, while Waller rushed for 89 yards on 17 carries. Myles Hymes led the Terriers in receiving, catching five passes for 61 yards.

Defensively, Horace Johnson tallied a game-high 12 tackles, adding a tackle for a loss and a fumble recovery, while Delanoe Harris recorded 11 tackles and a forced a fumble.

Floyd Shackelford notched the lone sack of the day for the Terriers, adding five tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss, while Jones made an interception, adding three tackles.

The Terriers will wrap up the 2019 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 1:00 p.m. at Charles A. Henry Field against The College of Wooster Fighting Scots on Senior Day.
