GRANVILLE, Ohio - October 5, 2019 – The Hiram Terriers women's volleyball team fell to the Denison University Big Red, 3-0, on Saturday at Livingston Gymnasium to fall to 11-8 (0-3 NCAC) on the year.

The Terriers got off to a hot start in the opening set, taking an early 5-1 lead. But the Big Red stormed back to tie the set at 5-5, eventually opening a 16-12 lead over the Terriers.

Following a Hiram timeout, the Terriers responded with a 6-1 run to take an 18-17 lead, but Denison came back after a timeout of their own to knot the score at 20.

The two sides went back-and-forth over the final few points, with neither team able to build a lead. However, with the score tied at 24, Denison took advantage of an attack error and Sidney Gossard notched a kill to take the first set, 26-24.

In the second set, Denison pulled ahead early, taking an 11-6 lead midway through the set. Hiram mounted a comeback to pull within one, 12-11, but an attack error kept the Big Red out in front.

Down by two, the Terriers matched Denison point-for-point until a 6-2 run allowed the Big Red to pull away and finish off a 25-18 victory to take a 2-0 lead.

And in the third set, Denison raced out to a big lead, scoring 11 of the first 13 points of the set, eventually taking the set 25-13, and the match, 3-0.

The Terriers drop to 11-8 (0-3 NCAC) with the loss, while Denison moves to 12-5 (3-0 NCAC) with the win.

Lindsey Walker led the Terriers with 11 kills, adding 11 digs for her 11th double-double of the year. Lindsey Stahl and Mackenzie Brannon each recorded a team-high 13 digs, while Emily Chrustic notched 27 assists.

The Terriers will look to bounce back when they host No. 21 Muskingum University on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. in Price Gymnasium.
