Women's Hoops Falls Against Denison

Jan.23-HIRAM, Ohio- The Hiram College women's basketball team fell 66-57 against the Big Red, Wednesday evening.  
 
The Terriers struggled in the opening minutes with Denison growing their initial lead to 6-2.  
 
Sophomore Alainna Conroy knocked down a three and then a layup to grab the first Hiram advantage of the night (8-9).  
 
Inside the remaining minute of the first quarter, the Terriers found themselves trailing again until freshman Josie Earnhardt shot a three and Conroy hit a buzzer beater to finish the first quarter leading by one (16-15). 
 
Denison made their offensive strike in the second quarter outscoring the Terriers 20-7. Before heading into the locker room, the Big Red watched their advantage swell to as big as 12 (35-23).  
 
The third quarter mirrored the second with Denison maintaining their double-digit lead.  
 
The fourth quarter is where the Hiram offense was able to spring to life, scoring the most points of any quarter, outscoring the Big Red by a 19-15 margin. Although the Terriers were able to close the gap, the scoring difference was not enough to overcome with Denison securing the 66-57 victory.  
 
Hiram shot 12-13 from the free-throw line, forcing 14 turnovers with nine steals.  
 
Conroy paced the Hiram group with a career-high 18 points and four rebounds. Sophomore Tashauna Wright also tallied double-digit scoring with 11 points and three rebounds. Senior Erica Johnson added seven points and seven rebounds.  
 
The Terriers will continue conference action Saturday, January 26 as they travel to Delaware, Ohio to take on the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
