HIRAM, Ohio -- The Hiram College volleyball team recorded 39 kills as they defeated the Oberlin College Yeowomen in a three-set match for their first conference win on Wednesday night. The final scores of each set were 25-17, 25-19 and 25-15.
The Terriers improve to a 10-4, 1-2 NCAC record and the Yeowomen fall to a 4-5, 0-3 NCAC record on the season.
Hiram's offense was led by senior Marissa Jay (Parma, Ohio/Padua Franciscan), who had 11 kills and a .259 hitting percentage.
Junior Jessica Fontana ((Thompson, Ohio/ Ledgemont) added eight kills and senior Laura Kelly (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) and junior Grace Wilson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/ Chagrin Falls) followed with seven kills each.
Senior Claire Maier (Huntsville, Ohio/ Indian Lake) finished the match with 32 assists in addition to five digs and two kills.
On the defensive end, senior Megan Schaefer (Elyria, Ohio/ Elyria) had a team-high 11 digs and freshman Madison Fortune (Lorain, Ohio/ Clearview) followed with 8, respectively.
The Terriers will play next on Saturday when they travel to Gambier to face Kenyon in a conference matchup at 1 p.m.
