Volleyball tops DePauw (Ind.) in five set thriller for first NCAC victory of season

HIRAM, Ohio -- The Hiram College volleyball team grinded out a 25-27, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 15-11 five set victory over DePauw (Ind.) on Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers are now 12-5 on the season and pick up their first NCAC win of the year and stand at 1-1. The Tigers fall to 9-5, 1-1.

Senior Lindsay Brewer (New Franklin, Ohio/Manchester) led the Hiram offense with 20 kills. Junior Katie Barton (Newbury, Ohio) added 15 kills and senior Emily Mortimer (Mogadore, Ohio/Field) finished with a season-best 11.

Junior Claire Maier (Huntsville, Ohio/Indian Lake) had 53 assists in the win and junior Laura Kelly (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) had a career-high 39 digs. Junior Megan Schaefer (Elyria, Ohio) also added 20 digs for Hiram.

Suzanne Peters led three Tigers in double figure kills with 19.

As a team, Hiram hit .228 with 61 kills, while DePauw had 62 kills and hit .250.

Hiram will return to action on Wednesday, when it faces its first NCAC road test of the season at Oberlin. The contest is set to begin at 7 p.m.
