HIRAM, Ohio -- The Hiram College volleyball team topped Wooster 3-1 (25-18, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23) in a NCAC battle on Friday evening.
The Terriers are now 16-6 overall and 4-2 in the NCAC, while the Fighting Scots are 11-11, 0-6.
Before the contest, Hiram honored its five seniors for their contributions to the program over the past four years.
Senior Katie Barton (Newbury, Ohio/Newbury) led the Terriers with 19 kills, while senior Lindsay Brewer (New Franklin, Ohio/Manchester) had 17 kills and 10 digs.
Junior Marissa Jay (Parma, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) added 10 kills and senior Ashton Webb (Wadsworth, Ohio/Norton) registered 13 kills.
Junior Claire Maier (Huntsville, Ohio/Indian Lake) finished with 56 assists and junior Laura Kelly (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) had a match-high 28 digs.
The Terriers used a 6-0 run midway through the first set to build a 17-9 lead and take control. A setting error on Wooster gave Hiram the set 25-18.
In Set 2, the Fighting Scots built a 19-18 lead. The Terriers would win the next three points to jump in front 20-19.
After Wooster won two of the next three points, the Terriers would get kills from Brewer and Jay and an attack error to clinch the set 25-21.
The teams found themselves knotted at 20-20 in the third set, before Wooster captured four of the final five points to force a fourth set.
The Fighting Scots jumped out to a 8-4 lead early in Set 4, but Hiram chipped away and tied the score at 12-12. Hiram slowly pulled away and a kill by Brewer gave the Terriers the set and match 25-23.
The Terriers registed 65 kills and a .236 hitting percentage, compared to 44 and a .150 mark for Wooster.
Lydia Webster led the Wooster attack with 17 kills.
Hiram will have a quick turnaround and will host Buffalo State (N.Y.) in non-conference action on Saturday at 1 p.m.
