HIRAM, OHIO -- The Hiram College volleyball team recorded straight set wins over Hilbert (N.Y.) and Marietta in its home opener on Saturday afternoon at Price Gymnasium.
The Terriers are now 10-1 on the season.
Against Hilbert (2-7), Hiram posted a 25-12, 25-22, 25-9 victory.
Sophomore Marissa Jay (Parma/Padua Franciscan) paced the Terriers with a match-high nine kills. Junior Lindsay Brewer (Barberton/Manchester) added eight kills.
Senior Shirjoma Jacobs (Maple Heights) also added six kills on seven attempts.
Sophomore Claire Maier (Huntsville/Indian Lake) dished out a match-high 34 assists and senior Regina Zyle (Cleveland/Beaumont) added 13 digs.
In the match against Marietta (2-9), Jay led Hiram with 13 kills and senior Jennifer Yardas (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) and Brewer each added 11 as Hiram scored a 25-14, 25-18, 25-20 victory.
Maier dished out 33 assists and Zyle finished with 27 digs. Junior Ashton Webb (Wadsworth/Norton) also finished with 19 digs.
Hiram will return to action Septmeber 20, when it opens NCAC play at Kenyon at 1 p.m. The Terriers will also take on Otterbein at Kenyon at 3 p.m.
