Volleyball sweeps past Ohio Wesleyan to move to 5-0 in NCAC play

HIRAM, OHIO -- The Hiram College volleyball team remained perfect in NCAC play with a 25-22, 25-15, 25-12 victory over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers are now 19-4 on the season and 5-0 in NCAC play. The Battling Bishops drop to 14-9, 3-3.

Sophomore Nikolette Scruggs (Barberton) paced the Terriers with eight kills on 11 attempts for a .727 hitting mark.

Junior Lindsay Brewer (New Franklin/Manchester) finished with a team-high nine kills and sophomore Marissa Jay (Parma/Padua Franciscan) also had nine.

Senior Regina Zyle (Cleveland/Beaumont) finished with a match-high 15 digs.

Senior Tierra Moore (Canton/Canton South) dished out 17 assists and sophomore Claire Maier (Huntsville/Indian Lake) added 12.

Iris Anderson led Ohio Wesleyan with 13 kills and Shannon Schlater had a match-high 27 assists.

The Terriers captured six of the final seven points to take the opening set 25-22.

Hiram built leads of 11-5 in Set 2 and 17-6 in Set 3 to take control for the victory.

Hiram will return to action on Friday, when it begins a key two-match NCAC road swing at No. 5 Wittenberg at 7 p.m. The Terriers will then travel to take on DePauw (Ind.) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
