Volleyball Posts a Pair of Victories at Denison Tri-Match

GRANVILLE, OHIO  --  The Hiram College volleyball team posted a pair of victories at a tri-match hosted by Denison University in Granville.  The Terriers defeated the Big Red, 3-0, in a North Coast Athletic Conference match and also defeated non-conference opponent Earlham (Ind.) College, 3-0.

In the match against Denison, Hiram (12-5, 2-0 NCAC) won by the scores of 25-21, 26-24 and 33-31.  The offense was led by freshman Marissa Jay (Parma/Padua Franciscan) with 15 kills.  Sophomore Lindsay Brewer (Barberton/Manchester) was second with 14 kills.  All-NCAC junior Tierra Moore (Canton/Canton South) recorded 28 set assists. 

Defensively, senior Danielle Day (Newbury) tallied 21 digs and Lindsay Brewer and sophomore Logan Brewer (Barberton/Manchester) had a team-high six blocks. 

Against Earlham, the Terriers again won in straight sets with the scores of 25-10, 25-19 and 25-12.  Logan Brewer led the Hiram offensive attack with 11 kills.  Moore tallied 31 assists, while freshman Laura Kelly (Massillon/Jackson) had three service aces.

On defense, Day led the team in digs with 16.  At the net, Logan Brewer had six total blocks, followed by Moore with five.

Hiram will travel to Alliance for a non-conference match against No. 8 nationally-ranked University of Mount Union on Wednesday, Oct. 2.  The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
