Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MARIETTA, OHIO  --  The Hiram College volleyball team came away with a two-match split on the final day of the Marietta College Pioneer Classic in Marietta.  The Terriers defeated Adrian (Mich.) College, 3-0, but lost to host school Marietta, 3-2.

With the split, the Terriers are now 11-3 overall for the season.

In the match against Adrian, both teams played a hard-fought first set, but it was Hiram who'd come out the winner by the score of 26-24.  The Terriers took control of the match by winning the second set, 25-19, to take a 2-0 match lead.  Hiram put the Bulldogs away in the third set winning, 25-20, to claim the victory and remain undefeated in the tournament.

Against the Pioneers, Marietta looked to be headed to a possible three-set sweep winning the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-23.  Hiram then rallied in the third set to keep the match going, 29-27.  The Terriers kept the rally going and evened the match at 2-2 by coming out on top in the fourth set, 25-19.  In the fifth and deciding set, the Hiram rally fell short as Marietta held on for a 15-12 victory and the 3-2 overall match win.

Following the tournament, senior outside hitter Ariel Pund (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Hiram will host Oberlin College on Wednesday, Sept. 19 in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener at Price Gymnasium.  The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
