Box Score UNIVERSITY CIRCLE, OHIO -- The Hiram College volleyball team came out one the winning end of a 3-2 match victory against non-conference opponent Case in University Circle.
Hiram (21-5) defeated the Spartans (18-9) by the scores of 25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 16-25 and 15-11. Leading the Terrier offense was senior outside hitter Ariel Pund (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit) with 11 kills. Sophomore right-side player Jennifer Yardas (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) was second with 10 kills and freshman middle hitter Emily Mortimer (Mogadore/Field) added nine kills. Sophomore setter Tierra Moore (Canton/Canton South) had 45 set assists.
On defense, Pund had a team-high 23 digs, followed by junior libero Danille Day (Newbury) with 21 digs. Freshman Kayla Bartlett (Guysville/Alexander) also recorded double-figure digs with 16. Up front, sophomore middle hitter Shirjoma Jacobs (Maple Heights) had a combined five blocks (two solo and three assists) in addition to Mortimer recording four blocks (three solo and one assist) and Moore adding three blocks (one solo and two assists).
Hiram will travel to Springfield for a North Coast Athletic Conference match against No. 3 nationally-ranked and defending NCAA Division III National Champion Wittenberg University on Friday, Oct. 19. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
