Hiram College encourages photographic coverage of sports events by the news media. Further, we are happy to have students, faculty, staff, and their families – as well as community members - attend and photograph intercollegiate events with the understanding that the images are intended for personal use only and not for any commercial use, general distribution and/or sale. Admission to spectator areas at athletics events assumes compliance with this policy.
Still and video photography from any area other than spectator seating requires a Hiram, North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) or NCAA-issued credential. Requests for media and photography credentials can be made through the Hiram College Sports Information Office.
In general, only photographers or videographers shooting for Hiram College, opponents, or credentialed media members in a working capacity are permitted on the sideline or field level during athletic events. Photographers must adhere to all sideline regulations. Friends, family or other photographers may be granted permission with the advance request to shoot from the field area on a case-by-case basis.
Requests for all athletics photography or videography credentials must be submitted to the Director of Sports Information at least 24 hours prior to an athletics event. Please contact:
Ari Ross, Director of Sports Information
Phone: (330) 569-5495
Email: rossaj@hiram.edu
All photography and videography must comply with NCAA, NCAC and Hiram rules and policy. Please be advised that photographers assume all risks of entering the playing field of an athletics event.
Per NCAA rules, images may not be sold without getting written consent from the Hiram College Director of Athletics and by granting Hiram College and the Department of Athletics full use of all images captured. Images of student-athletes may not, under any circumstances, be used by third parties for commercial or advertising purposes (see NCAA by-laws 12.5.1.1.5 and 12.5.1.9)
NCAA rules also prohibit the use of flash photography at many varsity athletic events, particularly indoor sports such as men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s volleyball.
Hiram College reserves the right to place further restrictions on access to athletic facilities and events and/or revoke credentials when necessary to protect the safety and security of the college community, to ensure the enjoyment of events by other fans/spectators and to comply with league/national directives.
