HIRAM, Ohio - April 1, 2026 - Hiram women's lacrosse won its first game since the program returned to competition this season, as the Terriers fought through multiple lightning warnings, a 22-hour weather delay and another torrential downpour before making a convincing drive to the finish line as part of a 7-5 win over Thiel on Thursday late afternoon at Henry Field.
The win is the Terriers' first since March 4, 2020, when the team beat Muskingum behind a 20-goal performance.
Leading the way for the Terriers was Janelle Steiner and Kasey Kelhoffer, who had two goals each. Riley France added an assist, Sofiah Barkoot and Jane Clark each had six ground balls and four different players had multiple caused turnovers in the victorious effort.
It was a game of swings in the first half, with the Tomcats scoring three of the first four goals before the Terriers responded and scored the final two goals in the first half and an early goal in the third quarter. At that point, Hiram led 4-3, but a second lightning delay was enough to suspend the game on Tuesday evening and reschedule the resumption for the game on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
The Terriers weren't bothered by the break in rhythm, as a downpour of rain, a new set of officials and just 28 minutes of lacrosse to play was just the combination the team needed to get over the hump and find the win column. The teams traded goals after the game resumed before Hiram scored two of the final three goals to claim the win.
In addition to Steiner and Kelhoffer, Natalie Easterday scored a late "man-up" goal, while Clark scored the team's first goal of the game and Megan Dayton scored the final goal before the lengthy delay.
Hiram will look to carry the momentum into Saturday, when it travels to Pittsburgh for a road conference game against Chatham. Start time is slated for 1 p.m.
