HIRAM, Ohio – September 6, 2025 – Hiram women's soccer played stellar defense in the later stages of its 1-0 victory over Olivet, fending off multiple late shot attempts to hold on for a big win at Henry Field on Saturday late afternoon.
In the 79th minute, Brianna Weber blocked a shot from the opposition, jumping in front of Olivet's Gia Hyden to prevent what would've been the game-tying score. Moments later, Olivet's Nevaeh Hartshorn missed another attempt on a shot over the net, keeping Hiram's one-goal lead intact.
In the 87th and 88th minute, Olivet had opportunities to score on a corner kick and a shot attempt, but the Terriers defense held their ground to seal the tough win. Once the clock hit 0:00, the home team roared in excitement and rung the Hiram victory bell to celebrate the team's first win of 2025.
Bella Simmons was responsible for the offensive production, as she teamed with Reagan Mory just outside the box before firing a right-footed shot through the back of the net in the 26th minute. It marked the second goal and first game-winning goal of the season for the Terriers.
Hiram was consistent all match long, limiting the opposition to zero shots on target and just eight shots overall. Olivet had its chances with six corner kicks, but the defensive unit of Weber, Becca Devericks, Ava Little and Kasey Kelhoffer was strong throughout the day.
With the win, the Terriers have now won two of the three matches in the all-time series against the Comets, which dates back to 2023.
Hiram returns to action on Tuesday, when it will look to win for a second straight season against Kenyon. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m. in Gambier, OH.
