SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – February 22, 2025 – Hiram finished strong in a conference loss to Wittenberg on Saturday afternoon, outscoring the Tigers in the fourth quarter (16-14) despite a 74-56 loss inside Pam Smith Evans Arena.
Brooke Hickman and
Isabella Caceres combined for 12 of the team's 16 points in that final frame, with Hickman being a force in the frontcourt and Caceres finding the shooting touch in the backcourt. The tandem finished with 13 and 16 points respectively, leading the road team against an opponent that finished as the No. 5 team in the conference standings.
Hiram officially locked in the No. 6 spot in the final regular-season ladder, which means the team will play Denison in the quarterfinals of the NCAC Tournament on Tuesday. Both games between those two teams have been decided by single digits this season.
The Terriers also got a 12-point burst from
Anastasia Lawler, along with at least one field goal from four different reserve players. Hiram shot over 46% in all but one quarter on the day.
Wittenberg won the game thanks to a 20-point performance from Riane Burton and a combined 33 bench points. Forty of the opposition's 74 points were scored in the painted area.
Hiram will now get two days away from competition before returning to the NCAC Tournament with that matchup against the Big Red. Tip-off time is tentatively slated for 7 p.m. inside Livingston Gymnasium in Granville, Ohio.
