HIRAM, Ohio – November 9, 2024 – Hiram shifted gears in the second half of a 58-44 win over Adrian on Saturday afternoon, outscoring the Bulldogs, 34-21, to claim a convincing victory in the season opener at Price Gymnasium.
The Terriers held their opposition to a 35% shooting clip from the field, while the tandem of
Brooke Hickman (19 points) and
Isabella Caceres (11 points) combined for over half of their team's points. Caceres also added five assists, while Hickman,
Anastasia Lawler and
Diara Parsons each had a pair of steals.
Hiram was outscored in the first quarter, 14-13, before winning each of the last three quarters by a combined 15 points. Adrian didn't have any student-athletes score more than six points in the game, a testament to the defense and depth of the Hiram roster.
The run started toward the end of the second quarter, when Hiram went on a 5-0 run and held the Bulldogs scoreless for the final 5:10 of the half.
Jo Janda made her presence felt during that run, scoring her first two baskets of the young season.
The Terriers scored the first four points of the second half to cap a 9-0 run before Lawler gave the team its largest lead of the game (31-25) on a 3-pointer.
Sarah Seaman later added all eight of her points in the third quarter to extend the lead to double digits in front of a home crowd that got louder as the game progressed.
Hiram closed out the contest behind 54.6% shooting (6-11) in the fourth quarter, which also included five free throws. Both of those marks were the highest by either team in any quarter of the game.
Hiram will stay at home and look for another win on Tuesday, when it hosts Geneva at 6:30 p.m. inside Price Gymnasium.
