HIRAM, Ohio - September 16, 2023 - It was a special day for the Hiram women's soccer program, as four of its seniors were honored in front of a supportive Henry Field crowd on Saturday afternoon.
Skyler Huda, Tayleigh Price, Regina Dubeansky and Kylie Hudson were each given framed jerseys and a memorable ceremony with their families and coaches before a highly entertaining matchup against Franciscan.
The Terriers would fall just short in the non-conference clash, 2-1, but that didn't spoil an afternoon for a group that has been part of the program since the start of 2020.
Huda became the 5th player in Hiram program history to eclipse 300 career saves in the game, while the other three seniors also were part of the starting lineup together. The group has combined for over 7,000 minutes of playing time in their careers, with game-winning goals, game-saving defensive plays and special moments on and off the field found throughout their time with the Terriers.
The group began with former head coach Michael Cracas in the canceled 2020 season before starting their first of three seasons together with head coach Kaela Kovanda in 2021.Â
The game itself was highlighted by a Caitlin Tucker goal in the 31st minute, a high-arcing shot from long distance that found the top-right corner of the net. Freshman Bella Simmons picked up her team-high 2nd assist on the play, attacking the Barons defense before kicking it back out to Tucker, who now has a team-high 3 goals on the young campaign.
Franciscan would pick up its production in bunches, as it scored in the 42nd and 50th minute to pull ahead, 2-1. Gabriella De La Torre and Tania Davidson worked together on both scoring plays, with each player scoring a goal and each recording an assist.
Huda played another solid game in goal; her 8 saves in the game gave her 304 saves for her career. The only other student-athletes in program history to have 300+ saves are Laura Warner (520), Ally Green (479), Emily Bristol (395) and Michelle Wheater (343).
Price, Dubeansky and Hudson earned a loud round of applause during the opening introductions before the game, and had tons of support from the home crowd every time they were involved throughout the 90 minutes. Freshmen Reagan Mory and Sydney Ladage combined for 7 shots, including 3 shots on goal, to round out the team's highlights.
Hiram will continue its stretch of four straight home games when it hosts the Golden Tornadoes of Geneva on Tuesday at 7 p.m. from Henry Field in Hiram, Ohio.
