Hiram Posts Big Second Half In Loss To Oberlin

Terriers Outscore Yeowomen by 6 Points In Second Half

HIRAM, Ohio - February 8, 2023 - A strong second half from the Terriers women's basketball team highlighted a hard-fought loss to Oberlin (64-47) on Wednesday night at Price Gymnasium.

Hiram outscored their opposition, 34-28, in the final two quarters to cut a 28-point deficit in half toward the closing stages of the game. It marks another bounce back effort for the Terriers, who outscored Denison (33-27) and Ohio Wesleyan (32-31) in the second half of those respective games, too.

Sophomore Brooke Hickman, the reigning NCAC Athlete of the Week, led the way with her 11th double-double of the season. Her 16 points were the most by any player in the game.

Jocelyn Janda helped spark the offense in the second half with 14 points, her highest-scoring performance since Dec. 1 against Hilbert (16 points). The game also marked her 3rd of the season with at least 4 three-pointers.

Hiram bounced back from a 36-13 halftime deficit by playing hard on the defensive end in the third quarter. It held the Yeomen to a 3-12 mark (25%) from the field in the period.

The offense got it rolling in the fourth quarter, with Janda scoring 11 of her 14 points to put the Terriers in range of a single-digit margin. Anastasia Lawler also added a three-pointer and 2 assists in the quarter before Oberlin came away with the win.

Hiram will next look to sweep the season series over Wooster on Saturday at 1 p.m. inside Timken Gymnasium.
