DELAWARE, Ohio - February 18, 2023 - The Hiram women's basketball team finished its regular season with a 81-49 loss to Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.
The loss gives the Terriers a 9-16, 3-11 NCAC record and the No. 7 seed in the NCAC Tournament. They will play at No. 2 DePauw (18-7, 13-1 NCAC) in the quarterfinals on Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.
Haley Thompson finished with a team-high 18 points, while Ava Mory added 12 points and Taylor Valaitis scored 5 in her final collegiate regular-season game. For the Battling Bishops, Alyssa Griner (16), Kasey Schipfer (13) and Lauren Denison (10) all scored in double-figures.
Hiram started slow in the first quarter before putting up 15+ points in each of the final three quarters. They outscored the opposition in the fourth quarter, 19-15.
Thompson and Valaitis highlighted that fourth-quarter run with 13 combined points, including the second three-pointer of the season for Valaitis. Mory scored the team's other 6 points in the quarter to end the game on a strong note.
The Terriers will have the next two days off before beginning the NCAC Tournament in Greencastle, Indiana on Tuesday. Live video of the event can be found here.
