HIRAM, Ohio – December 15, 2023 - In a back-and-forth game that went down to the final minutes of the fourth quarter, the Hiram women's basketball team came away with a win against the Hilbert Hawks, 47-38, on Friday evening inside Price Gymnasium.
The game was tied four times, with neither team gaining a double-digit lead for the entirety of the contest. Hiram was able to collect 17 points off of second-chance buckets and outscored its opposition in the fourth quarter, 14-5.
The game was decided in the final minutes;
Anastasia Lawler was able to turn a 38-38 tie into a 41-38 lead thanks to a clutch 3-pointer with 1:34 left to play. This would be the deciding factor, with the Terriers finishing the game on a 9-0 run during that span.
Lawler led Hiram with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals. It's the second straight game the senior has led the team in scoring.
The frontcourt duo of
Brooke Hickman and
Ava Mory combined for 17 points and 18 rebounds, while the team's defense forced 17 turnovers and allowed a season-low 38 points.
Hilbert's Alesia Hamm led the game in scoring with 19 points.
The Terriers will next host Franciscan University on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. inside Price Gymnasium.
