ERIE, Pa. - February 10, 2022 – Hiram men's wrestling earned their first dual win of the year and their first since the program's re-establishment in 2020, wrapping up their 2021-22 regular season with a 33-19 dual-meet win over Penn St. Behrend on Thursday.
 
After Mitch Headley picked up a forfeit win at 125 lbs. for the Lions, Grayson Smith (5-21) and Alex Savering (19-14) earned forfeit wins for the Terriers at 133 and 141 lbs. to give Hiram a 12-6 lead.
 
Next up at 149 lbs., Penn St. Behrend's Cole Ruffo defeated Kaelon Lawson-West (7-16), 10-1 by major decision, to pull the Lions within two points, but Seth Holt (6-19) responded with a pin, pinning Andrew Maser in 0:59 at 157 lbs. to extend Hiram's lead to 18-10.
 
After the Lions then picked up a forfeit win at 165 lbs., Kwame Stewart (2-11) matched Brian Himes with a forfeit win at 174 lbs. to put Hiram on top, 24-16.
 
Jimmy Thomas (11-18) then earned an 8-5 win by decision over Reno DiCesare at 184 lbs., and Isaac DeVault (13-12) scored another forfeit win for the Terriers at 197 lbs. to solidify the victory for the Terriers.
 
Devan Welch (9-16) and Joe Newara then wrapped up the dual for the Terriers and Lions at 285 lbs., with Newara earning a 2-0 win by decision to give Penn St. Behrend three more team points, but it wouldn't be enough, as Hiram took home the 33-19 dual-meet victory.
 
With the win, the Terriers wrap up the 2021-22 regular season and will next compete at the NCAA Central Regional in Adrian, Mich. beginning Friday, Feb. 25.
