WASHINGTON, Pa. - January 22, 2022 – Hiram College men's wrestling competed in a pair of dual meets against the Washington & Jefferson College Presidents and the Glenville State College Pioneers on Saturday at the Jim White Duals, falling to the Presidents, 55-0, and the Pioneers,
MATCH 1: WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON 55, HIRAM 0
After W&J picked up a forfeit win at 125 lbs.,
Grayson Smith (3-15) and
Alex Savering (14-8) each fell in their bouts at 133 and 141 lbs., respectively, by fall. W&J's Hunter Swedish pinned Smith in 2:30, while Christian Logan pinned Savering in 4:23.
Kaelon Lawson-West (6-11) then put together a competitive bout at 149 lbs., falling by decision, 4-2, to Adam Zerbee.
At 157 and 165 lbs.,
Seth Holt (4-14) and
Kwame Stewart (0-6) each fell by pin, with Holt falling to Vincent Catania in 4:27 and Stewart to Seth Finnigan in 6:51.
Up next at 174 lbs.,
Jimmy Thomas (8-13) battled Jayden Datz but fell by major decision, 17-8. W&J then picked up to more forfeit wins at 184 and 197 lbs., before
Devan Welch (5-10) fell by pin (5:27) to Jacob Walker at 285 lbs.
In an extra, countable match at 285 lbs. to wrap up the dual,
Zach Harper (0-15) fell to Willard McCracken by major decision, 14-1.
MATCH 2: GLENVILLE STATE 47, HIRAM 12
At 165 lbs., Stewart (1-6) picked up the first win of the day for the Terriers and the first win of his career, earning a forfeit victory over the Pioneers.
Then at 285 lbs., Welsh (6-10) earned the Terriers' second win of the day, defeating Glenville's Devan Gauldin by fall, 4:26, to give the Terriers 12 team points against the Pioneers.
However, Glenville State would pick up the dual-meet win, with forfeit wins at 125, 184 and 197 lbs., as well as wins over Hiram at 133, 141, 149, 157 and 174 lbs.
At 133 lbs. Smith (3-16) picked up 11 individual points but fell via technical fall to Alec Fulwider, 26-11. And at 141 lbs., Savering (14-9) again fell by pin, this time in 3:25 to Ethan Hardy.
Both Lawson-West (6-12) and Holt (4-15) also fell by pin, Lawson-West in 0:21 to Gavin Quiocoho at 149 lbs., and Holt to Tristan Pugh in 1:05.
And at 174 lbs., Thomas fell by pin to Hunter DeLong in 0:46.
Hiram wrapped up the Jim White Duals with several extra, countable matches, both against Glenville State and Alderson Broadus.
At 133 lbs., Smith (3-17) battled Glenville's Parker Henderson but fell by pin in 3:00. At 285 lbs., Welch (6-11) and Alderson Broadus' Kourdell Todd wrestled for nearly the first two periods before Welch was pinned in 5:26. And in another heavyweight bout, Harper (0-16) fell to the Battlers' Dwayne Johnson in 0:58 by pin.
The Terriers next compete in the Jamestown Community College Open on Sunday, Jan. 30 at 9 a.m. in Jamestown, N.Y.
