HIRAM, Ohio - December 11, 2021 – Hiram men's wrestling picked up four individual wins in their home dual vs. Jamestown Community College on Saturday inside Price Gymnasium, but fell to the Jayhawks, 23-12.
The Terriers and Jayhawks opened and closed the dual with a pair of 285 lbs. extra, countable matches. In the opener,
Isaac DeVault (2-5) fell by pin, 2:14, to Alex Christy, while
Zach Harper (0-10) closed the dual, falling by decision, 6-2, to Brock Johnson.
Both sides forfeited the 125 lbs. weight class, before
Grayson Smith (2-9) took down De'Aonte Hutchinson, 10-8, by sudden victory in an exciting, back-and-forth bout.
Up 3-0, Hiram then picked up another win by decision, this time at 141 lbs., as
Alex Savering (11-5) defeated Brendon Ramsey by decision, 6-4, to put Hiram up 6-0.
Next up at 149 lbs.,
Kaelon Lawson-West (6-10) fell to the Jayhawks Joey Pillittieri by technical fall, 20-5; 7:00, pulling Jamestown Community College within a point, 6-5.
At 157 lbs., Hiram picked up three more points as
Seth Holt (2-9) earned a pair of takedowns en route to a 4-2 win by decision over Adam Sanchez, to give the Terriers a 9-5 lead.
However, back-to-back pins by the Jayhawks, at 165 lbs. by Andrew Bungar of
Kwame Stewart (0-10, 2:08 and Ross Abrams of
Jimmy Thomas (6-9), 0:45, and a forfeit at 197 lbs., gave Jamestown a 23-9 advantage.
Devan Welch (5-9) though, wrapped up the day for the Terriers with a win at 285 lbs., defeating Christy by decision, 1-0.
Hiram gets back on the mats after winter break when they travel to Waynesburg, Pa. for the Waynesburg Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 9:30 a.m.
