HIRAM, Ohio - November 17, 2021 – Competing inside Price Gymnasium for the first time since 1987, and in front of a crowd full of men's wrestling alums, current Terriers and alumni and friends of the program, Hiram College men's wrestling hosted the Thiel College Tomcats for a dual meet and fell by the final score of 38-6.
 
The Terriers and Tomcats kicked off the dual meet with a 285 lbs. exhibition match between Hiram's Zach Harper (0-5) and Thiel's Tyree Orange. Orange defeated Harper by major decision, 13-4, before the two sides got started.
 
Both sides forfeited at 125 lbs., before Hunter E. Thompson and Grayson Smith (0-5) kicked things off at 133 lbs. Thompson quickly pinned Smith at 2:24, giving Thiel the early lead.
 
At 141 lbs., Alex Savering (5-1) went back-and-forth with Thiel's Jake Alberts, going to overtime where Savering won by sudden victory, winning by decision following his overtime takedown, 6-4.
 
At 149 lbs., Hunter Martz defeated Kaelon Lawson-West (3-5) by decision, 5-3, in a back-and-forth competitive bout.
 
Next up at 157 lbs., Seth Holt (0-5) fell to Thiel's Peyton Hearn by technical fall, 17-2 after 5:16 of play.
 
Following a Hiram forfeit at 165 lbs., giving Thiel's Alex Anderson the victory and the Tomcats a 20-3 lead, Jimmy Thomas (5-4) picked up the second win of the day for the Terriers. Wrestling at 174 lbs., Thomas earned a 3-0 win by decision over Thiel's Frank Gil.
 
And after two more forfeits, Devan Welch (3-5) and Dylan Proper wrestled the final bout of the evening at 285 lbs., with Proper pinning Welch after 4:37 to finish off the 38-6 victory for the Tomcats.
 
Hiram next travels to Albion, Mich. on Saturday, Nov. 20 for the Albion Invitational beginning at 12:30 p.m.
