BALTIMORE, Md. - November 13, 2021 – Hiram College women's basketball fell to the Gettysburg College Bullets, 59-39, in their final game of the Renie Amoss Memorial Tip-Off Classic on Saturday at the Decker Sports & Recreation Center.
 
Madison Branch got the Terriers on the scoreboard with a pair of free throws midway through the first quarter, but Gettysburg opened the first quarter with a 9-2 run.
 
Down by seven, Hiram pulled within five on Branch's jumper with 2:49 left in the quarter, and cut the Bullets' lead to four, 11-7, on Alex Lichner's three after one.
 
A free throw by Selena Varas to start the quarter made it a three-point game, but the Bullets extended their lead back out to five on Christina Richson's layup before pulling ahead with a 13-5 run, taking a 30-18 halftime lead into the locker room.
 
And with the Terriers struggling to find their range, Gettysburg extended their lead out to 20, outscoring Hiram 14-7 in the third quarter to take a 44-25 lead into the fourth.
 
And though Hiram twice cut Gettysburg's lead down below 20, the sizable advantage proved to be too much, and the Bullets pulled away with a 59-39 victory.
 
With the loss, Hiram falls to 1-3 on the year, while the Bullets move to 1-2.
 
Branch led the Terriers with 12 points, while Taylor Valaitis and Iyana Smith added six points each and Maddie Rakestraw tallied five. As a team, the Terriers shot just 20 percent from the field, sinking 16 of their 23 free throw attempts.
 
The Terriers next return to the friendly confines of Price Gymnasium on Tuesday, Nov. 16 for a matchup with the Kalamazoo College Jackets at 7:00 p.m.
